When a child is seriously ill or injured, families often travel far from home to access specialised medical care.
Ronald McDonald House helps ease some of the practical and emotional pressure by giving families a place to stay inside the hospital, close to their child’s bedside. Each year, hundreds of families find a home away from home with us. Parents, legal guardians and siblings have space to rest, spend time together and connect with other families who understand what they are going through.
Our House offers 27 private family bedrooms, giving families comfort, dignity and privacy during their stay.
Families also have access to:
"Every part of our House helps families feel safe and supported, so they have the space to focus on being there for their child."
Ronald McDonald House currently accepts referrals only from Nelson Mandela Children’s Hospital.
To enquire about staying with us, please speak to the hospital’s social work or medical team. They will guide you through the referral process and explain the eligibility criteria.

The hospital team will assess your family's needs and submit a referral to Ronald McDonald House.
Once we receive your referral, our team will confirm room availability with the hospital team.
When a room is available, the hospital team will guide your family through the next steps.
A referral does not guarantee immediate accommodation. If the House is full, your family will remain on the waiting list until a room becomes available. The hospital team will let us know if your family no longer needs accommodation.
Families stay with us at no charge because people and organisations choose to support our work.
Your donation helps provide families with accommodation, comfort and care while their child receives medical treatment.
Together, we help make sure Family Stays.
